The X factor - a fantastic, cheesy night out with Simon Cowell!

rehna December 6th, 2009

Like a lot of women I, (inexplicably) have a secret crush on Simon Cowell. Yes, I know it’s hard to explain; he’s average looking, exploits the masses horribly with cheesy programmes full of deluded wannabees with, at best, mediocre talent and wears his trousers unfeasibly high up his waist.
But, I don’t know, there’s just something about him. *shrugs*
What can I say?

And so it was that I found myself queuing up for the X Factor. Yep, the programme that’s cheesier than the new 4 cheese pizza at Pizza hut.
7.5 million people had applied for audience tickets for the show. Up to 20 million viewers are expected to watch the final next week. And I had nabbed 4 gold-dust tickets for the semi-final!

I took 3 female guests (X Factor is definitely a girl thing) and we had a ball!
It was Michael Jackson theme week which meant the 4 remaining contestants were to sing the king of pop’s greatest hits and Michael’s sister Janet was to perform – a good night was always in store.

The audience was pretty hysterical before the show even started. It’s the only way to approach such a show. We’d been waiting outside in the rain for hours (the only bad part of the day. With all the money Simon makes, he needs to treat his fans with more courtesy and provide a decent indoors place for them to wait for an audience with him) and several had already taken to the drink!!

Once inside, the very attractive floor manager led us to the front row because ‘you’re such pretty girls.’ he asked, did we mind sitting at the front where we’d probably be on television.
Did we mind. Did we heck!!!!
Woohoo!! A compliment AND front row, just to the left of the judges.
Perfect.

The judges strolled in for the pre-recording of Janet Jackson’s performance due to be shown the following day. Both Danni Minogue and Cheryl Cole are lovely in the flesh, like little porcelain dolls.

Louis is Louis and Simon is, well, just, damn charismatic. He exudes power with a down to earth naturalness which is pretty attractive and perhaps sums up his appeal.

Janet came on and performed a forgettable song but with an energetic, slick routine that Michael would have been proud of.

I don’t really rate any of this year’s contestants. I can’t see any of them becoming stars but they all put on a lot of heart into their performances and good luck to them.

I was supporting Jedward, simply because they were so rubbish and everyone else hated them but now I’ve switched my loyalty to Joe. Geordie Joe is cute and his family gave out posters and sweets to the audience and I’m always up for a little bribery if it involves chocolate.

All in all, a great night of pure family entertainment.
Love ya Simon!

    I was there!!!!
Despite the rain and freezing cold it was worth waiting to see Janet Jackson live. The ontestants all smiled at and that was nice. Made my evening.
