Tom Cruise doesn’t do it for me. I don’t think he’s good-looking. He’s got a protruding proboscis (translation: big, bulbous nose) that he apparently found in a landfill somewhere. The rest of his features, while not unpleasant, are unremarkable. Continue Reading »

I think the press fascination with this whole ah…affair is more interesting than the affair itself. Continue Reading »

A top Vatican official close to Pope Benedict has blasted the international bestseller ‘The Da Vinci Code.’ describing the book as ‘stridently anti Christian, full of calumnies, offences and historical and theological errors. It all started when Jennifer Aniston’s husband and Billy bob Thornton’s ex-wife made a well-hyped and disappointing movie entitled “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” According to published reports, there was enough electricity between the two stars, both on and off the set, to light up Las Vegas for a year. Rumors of an off-screen affair spread rapidly, fueled by pictures of the couple in different countries, always accompanied by her two adopted children. When it became obvious that they were officially a couple, they acquired a nickname – Brangelina. They were now one entity. Continue Reading »

OK, I have a confession -I would rather watch Tony Blair pop up and down firing off answers at Prime-minister’s than watch Jude Law in his hot, steamy, sexy love scene with Nicole Kidman in Cold Mountain. Continue Reading »

It should come as no surprise to anyone that we are obsessed with celebrities, particularly those in the entertainment field, and of those, it seems that we are especially interested in Hollywood stars. So much so, that I’m certain that at any given point in time, George Clooney could draw a bigger and more enthusiastic crowd than George Bush, Robbie Williams a bigger and better one than Tony Blair. Why, many outsiders ask, is it deemed okay for Indian films to show scenes of violent attempted rape but not a loving kiss between a couple in love? It’s an interesting question in the year 2006. After all, supposedly demure Indian actresses wear revealing outfits on screen, couples roll around provocatively in the hay during song picturisations and there are plenty of wildly suggestive dance moves, so why is a kiss not just a kiss in the average Bollywood blockbuster? One thing has always puzzled me about the British media’s obsession with the Beckhams. Just how do so many journalists find so much to say and write about two essentially dull people? Yes, that’s right, nice but awfully dull. Continue Reading »

The other day a neighbour called round to tell me about some tree felling that was going on in our road. As I thanked her for the information I realized I hadn’t a clue what her name was. And I didn’t know the first thing about her family. However, I did know all about the poor health of the husband of a woman across the Atlantic whose posts I had read on a show-business message board. In between exchanging views on this year’s Oscar dresses and Britney’s parenting skills people on the board wrote too about their personal circumstances. In fact, I probably knew more about the recent trials and tribulations of people on the board than I did about those of my actual friends. Continue Reading »
